Meet Spike

Meet Spikey

We all affectionately call him Spikey. He's a boy. He's a Siamese cat with a lot of love, blue eyes and a soothing motor-like purr. We just can't get enough of him.

In late October 2014, his behavior had been slightly off. In fact, it had been since the end of summer. He was constantly hiding under the bed only coming out late at night for food. Spikey started to develop lumps just under his skin. One of these lumps got rather large and by the beginning of November had developed into a lesion. As unsightly as a lesion could be, for a while we wrote it off thinking it may have been a bump that he scratched. Just before Thanksgiving, I decided enough was enough and we took Spikey in to the vet.

Being a little bit of a scaredy cat, Spikey wasn't too happy to be placed in the carrier and removed from the comfort of the place he has called home for 9 years. He's a trooper though and when placed on the exam table, the vet gave us a bit of heartbreaking news. He indicated that just from an observation point of view, Spikey may have cancer.

I immediately broke down.
First signs of lumps

Cancer? He's only 9 years young, I thought. I couldn't explain to you the shock I felt.

The vet prescribed an antibiotics and told us that he would be happy to run additional tests. One would be a blood panel that could possibly rule out cancer. The other would be a biopsy, where he would surgically remove the lump and send it to the lab. Me being a strong believer in healing opted to just medicate him and pray.

We took Spike home that evening and began administering the meds and hoping that these lumps were not in fact cancer.
